My First Time using a Blog
This is my first time using a blog and I have enjoyed it. It can allow you to get your views across easily and quickly. I don't think I'd personally use blogger from now on, I find web 2.0 apps like Facebook and Twitter easier to use.
Reading Week
As I have two exams next week I have reading week. For the second half of the week I went home. It took me a while to get home due to the snow, but I got there finally!
After doing some revision I went out in the snow with my little sisters... we had so much fun... I think I was more excited than them!

Blog Review (PROJECT)
Blogger is an easy way to read
others thoughts and opinions, as well as see blogs related to things your
interested in.
I found http://theinnovativeeducator.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/8-ways-to-assess-without-standardized.html a
really interesting read.
There was loads of posts which I found interesting, once I started reading it I couldn't stop!
I agree with the fact that standardized tests are not always what’s best for learning. Although I don't think they should be abolished completely.
Tests are important to see how children’s knowledge is developing, but I do think they put unnecessary pressure on students.
I think communication is key to learning, and children should feel like they are getting the right approach to their individual learning style.
The blog has a variety of posts, all which I find interesting in one way or another. The labels allow for you to be transferred to related posts quickly and to other bloggers sites. I like how the posts are so popular so there are always comments to read to see other people’s views, and I can post my own views for others to see.
The blog has nearly 5,000 followers, showing how popular it is!

Revision Time
Sooooo I've got exams at the end of January... I'm really nervous!
I don't really know what to expect for my first lot of exams at university so I've been revising loads!
Living in halls its hard to get a quiet 5 minutes, but I've just been locking myself in my room!
LET IT SNOW!
Well, I woke up on Friday morning to a blanket of snow! I was surprised about how much there was, I had been up till 2.30am and there wasn't any sign but by 8am there was loads!
Uni was cancelled.... much to everyones delight!
We all went outside and had a snowball fight which was fun!
I only lasted 10 minutes outside, I was cold and didn't have any gloves... well that was my excuse!

By Sunday we had spent 3days stuck on campus, no one wanted to go outside with the ice!
Lets just say i've never watched so many films in my life!

House Hunting :D
Towards the end of last term we began discussing houses for next year. In the end there was eight of us that decided we wanted to live together from halls, four girls and four boys.
As there weren't that many eight bed-roomed houses in Swansea we began looking quickly.
As we are all doing different courses it was hard to pick a central house for all of us as were all on different campuses.
After looking at three houses we decided we'd found the one we wanted.
Signing the contracts made me feel really grown up, and not having to ask my parents for help with the deposit felt great, I finally felt like a grown up in the big wide world!
Everything's been signed and paid for with the house now, so we can chill out until September arrives when we have our house at the beginning of our second year... it seems like ages away but I know it will fly :D

Education and Web 2.0? (PROJECT)
I tested one of six web 2.0 apps to see how it could be used in an educational context.
I tested http://www.glogster.com/.
Glogster is an educational platform for over 7,000,000 users. It allows teachers and students to create online multimedia posters, with images, videos, text, sounds and much more.
Glogster allows webpages and posters to be made, which are easy to do with the 'drag and drop' interface.
Glogster creates a digital learning platform, which is easy for both children and adults to use. It allows a different way of learning, which can make a simple task for interesting for children of all ages. It allows children to become more imaginative, and gives them a stronger sense on independence when completing tasks.
The website also has video tutorials, with easy to follow instructions if you ever get stuck. There are also 100s of resources that are easily accessible.
The Glogster website charges for use, with reasonable pricing, it works out at around £2 per year per student... and you also get a months free trial!
The site has over 2,000 'glogs' on different subjects areas just waiting to be explored!
My Friends at Uni
Since being at Uni I've met so many amazing people! From the start everyone on my floor has been really close, always there for each other and helping out if anyone needs it.
We've had so many laughs and good times together already... and its only been 4 months!
I've also met some great people on my course, I think we have a really good seminar group :) Before Christmas we had a night out together and we all had a really good night.
I already know that I've made friends for life at Uni :D
Football......
Over Christmas my dad got us tickets to see not one but TWO football matches! The first was on boxing day.... FREEZING!!!
We then went to another match THREE days later and I have to say it wasn't much warmer!
Both matches we lost... and both times we left before 70 minutes as we were loosing that badly! My dad claims I brought bad luck, I personally just think the teams rubbish.......

I'm loooooooving it at Uni :D
I didn't even want to go home for Christmas!
I had a lovely Christmas with my family and friends. It was nice seeing my little sisters... I do miss them loads!
Since I've been back we've all been going out loads... I've spent more time with my floor mates and we've been bowling (I won of course!), for food and to the cinema a lot more this term than last term already!
Pros and Cons of Twitter (PROJECT)
Twitter is an information network, used my millions of people. It connects people from around the world with different ideas, opinions, facts and news stories daily. Twitter allows you to 'follow' what you find interesting and 'tweet' about your own ideas.
Pros-
Quick and Easy to 'follow' someone.
High level of interaction, allows you to communicate directly.
Allows you to 'follow' celebrities and people in the public eye.
Can 'favorite' tweets and 're-tweet' so other people tweets appear on your profile.
By putting a keyword in the search box you are instantly directed to 'tweets' relating to your search.
Cons-
'Tweets' appear quickly, but can then get lost in the world of Twitter.
Your limited to 140 characters per post, not much if you've got a lot to say!
Can only post links to one photo at a time
You don't know how many times your 'tweets' are being read, it could be by thousands!
Twitter is great for quick updates. It allows ‘normal’ people to connect with celebrities and their friends at the same time. More and more businesses are using Twitter as a way of interaction, its quick and easy search boxes are a huge bonus. However Twitter isn’t as private as other web 2 apps, although privacy levels can be altered.

Inspiring Talk.. TED (PROJECT)
After watching numerous videos on www.ted.com/talks this video really got me thinking about Education.
After watching the video I began thinking about ‘Human Creativity’. Every single Human being is different, and
children have a variety of talents. Some are stronger at things than others,
but the education system across the world are the same subjects, taught it
different ways. Those young people who grow up to become lecturers could be at
an advantage, they work well within the lines of academic work. However not
everyone does, and some people struggle to just sit behind a desk and read
academic information.
More and more schools today are beginning to intertwine subjects, with Maths being taught in PE and English being taught in Drama. This allows for the whole class of children who have a range of learning styles to be in with the chance of learning to their best standard. My teaching Maths in PE it allows children to be creative with their movements, but also learn number. The same with Drama, children can act and be free, but be learning an English play at the same time.
It’s important that children are allowed to be creative within their school lives. It is important that there is a balance, of course Math and English are important, but children need to be creative to be humans, rather than what society thinks.

It also made me realise we have no idea of the future of education. Education is
changing all the time, and although the key figures involved such as parents,
teachers, governors and students will remain the same throughout time, what’s
at the core of education changes.
The future is unpredictable; we don’t know how education is going to be next year, let alone in 25 years’ time. What we do know is that parents and teachers will always play a fundamental role in the education system. Parents especially play a pivotal role in influencing their children’s educational life, so it’s important that they are kept informed of the changes to the education system, aswel as how their child learns best. Learning doesn’t just occur in the classroom, there’s a whole world to learn from, in many different and creative ways. From a young age we all have dreams. Children have the capability to put these into practice, if pushed in the right direction. It is important that their skills and talents and also their weaknesses are recognised and developed. It’s important to push the boundaries and allow children to be educated out of their capacities; this way children can push themselves even further, at their own pace and make their extraordinary capabilities even more extraordinary.
